All our babies co-sleep with us for the first year or so. They sleep better, I sleep better, I think it's better for them, it's a win-win.
The downside to this is that, other than Alice (the privileged 1st child), they don't get a nursery.
Which is really just a downside to me and my inner Martha Stewart monster.
This was especially sad to me this time around because it means no designing and decorating a baby boy nursery.
But the Martha Stewart monster (enhanced by nesting hormones) would not be tamed.
So since our room will be doubling as Rutherford's nursery, that room got a complete makeover.
I really wish I had taken a before picture but I didn't realize when I began how far I would go.
Our bedroom has been my least favorite room in the house since we moved here.
I had done nothing to the room, no decorating or anything. Which didn't really bother me too much because I just thought to myself that it's a room we sleep and get dressed in, doesn't really matter if it's pretty.
What I hated most about the room was how dark it was. The walls were a darkish blue/gray and there were dark brown blackout blinds on the windows and we had big dark wood furniture.
So I decided when Stephen was gone on a National Guard drill weekend that I would surprise him by painting the room.
I painted the room a very pale grey and painted the trim white and switched our blinds with the guest room blinds which were white.
That made a huge difference.
When Stephen got home, he obviously thought I was crazy, especially when I told him I wanted to sell our nice bed frame and do something with boards instead.
Thankfully he trusts me and let me have my way.
So here is how it turned out:
We "side car" the crib which is great for co-sleeping because it can give us a little more separate space if need be but allows for easy access and closeness.
When I was pregnant with Alice, the first baby thing I bought was this picture:

I just loved the sweet mama bear image and colors.
Later we found out we were having a girl and decided to go with the Alice in Wonderland theme for her nursery and this picture stayed packed away until now.
I also made this mobile when I was pregnant with Alice to go with the mama bear picture but again, it didn't work for Alice's nursery.
So I am really excited to be able to use them now.
On the other wall I wanted a large colorful piece of art and decided to make this:

I really love how it turned out, and it was super inexpensive.
Some cubbies for Rutherford's clothes and a diaper changing station:
I sold our bed frame on Craigslist and just got a metal platform bed frame (which has also provided lots of storage).
Then I got some boards that I white washed and had Stephen attach them to the wall.
I really like how it turned out.
Now this is one of my favorite rooms! It makes this nesting mama very happy.
